How to Enrol
Starter Course Mailing List
The Starter Course is suitable for absolute beginners, with enrolments accepted at the beginning of each academic year. Our next student intake will commence in April 2025^.
If you would like to stay informed with any updates regarding our Starter Course, including information of upcoming enrolments, feel free to sign-up to the mailing list below.
For students who wish to begin their Japanese language studies sooner, we have a list of Japanese language schools in Sydney and outside of New South Wales for your reference.
^More details about the course will be made available once class schedules are finalised in early 2025.
*Please note – see our terms and conditions for more details regarding our course enrolment requirements.
If you have prior experience studying Japanese and would like to continue your studies through J-Course, please follow the steps below.
1. Submit an enquiry
- Complete the enquiry form below, including details about your Japanese language background and experience
- Use our Self-Level Checker form below to help us determine which of our courses is most suitable for you
- Once submitted, the J-Course team will get in touch with you shortly after to discuss with you the next steps
*Please Note:
- Spots in classes may not always be immediately available. In this case, you will be given the option of being placed on a waiting list, where you’ll be contacted once a spot becomes available.
- Non-beginners (i.e. those wishing to enrol in the Elementary 1 course or higher) are eligible to apply to join a course at any time during the academic year. Class availabilities will determine when you will be able to commence your studies with us.
2. Placement Test
Once a spot in class becomes available, the J-Course team will contact you to complete a placement test, so we can confirm the most suitable class level for you.
The placement test consists of a written assessment that will be emailed to you and a mini-interview with our Language Consultant conducted online via Zoom.
*Please note – the placement test is additional to the Self-Level Checker
3. Enrolment
- Once we have confirmed your current Japanese level, you will be sent an enrolment offer email, where a spot is available in your agreed class.
- Enrolment, included purchase of textbook(s) and payment of course fees, are made via Eventbrite or in person at our Chippendale center.
- Once the payment has been successfully completed, you will receive an enrolment confirmation email from the J-Course team including everything you need to know about your class and being a J-Course student.
Enquiry form and Self-Level Checker for Non-Beginner Level Courses
If you are interested in applying for one of our non-beginner level courses (i.e. Elementary 1 and above), please complete the enquiry form and (optional) Self-Level Checker test below.
If you are a current/continuing student of J-Course, see details below regarding the intra-term re-enrolment process.
Re-enrolment and Payment
Towards the conclusion of each term, the J-Course team will send you an email with re-enrolment and course fee payment details for the next term.
All continuing students are given a two-week priority enrolment period, during which your spot in class is held for you. If continuing students do not yet re-enrol by the end of the priority enrolment period, their spot in class may be offered to an applicant who is currently on our waiting list.
For more information regarding the re-enrolment process, please visit our Student Portal.
*Please note – if you’ve studied with J-Course before and would like to return after an absence of one or more terms, you will need to enrol as a new student (non-beginner). If you have any further questions, please contact the J-Course team directly.
