How to Enrol

If you haven’t studied Japanese before, you are considered an ‘absolute beginner’. If you have studied Japanese previously, please see the information for New Students (non-beginners).

Starter Course
The Starter Course (Aki, First Term) is suitable for absolute beginners, and will start in April.

Enrolments will open Thursday, 4 April at 1pm (AEDT). Please find details on how to enrol on the Starter page.

This information is for new students who have studied Japanese previously.

Submit an enquiry

  1. Complete our enquiry form (below), and include details about your Japanese language background.
  2. If you are unsure of your Japanese level, you can use our self-level checker (included in the enquiry form) to determine which of our courses may be suitable for you.
  3. J-Course will get in touch with you within as soon as we can after receiving your enquiry.

Please Note:

★ There may not be space available in a suitable class right away. In this case, you will be placed on a waiting list, and will be contacted when a place becomes available.

★ Depending on class availability, non-beginners can enrol in J-Course after term has commenced. You do not need to wait until the end of term or for the beginner application period to contact us.

★ You can find information on our courses and their levels on the course overview page.

Placement Test

When a seat becomes available, you will be asked to complete a placement test to confirm the most suitable class level for you. This test consists of a written test that will be emailed to you, and a mini-interview online via Zoom.
Please note that this test is separate to the self-level checker.

  1. After receiving confirmation of your level through the placement test, you will receive an email asking you to enrol and make payment via Eventbrite or in person at our office.
  2. Once you have completed payment, you will receive a confirmation email from J-Course with your class details.
  3. You are enrolled!
