Japanese Language Courses

Welcome to J-Course!

J-Course is The Japan Foundation, Sydney’s official Japanese language learning course catering to adult learners from beginner to advanced levels.

Our language courses approach Japanese learning to develop your communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing competencies) through class interaction and active participation tasks.

All our courses are conducted mainly in Japanese and our teaching approach is based on the JF Standard of Japanese Language Education.

About J-Course

Standard Japanese Courses (Beginner to Intermediate Level)

Special Japanese Courses (Advanced)

*Please note – our next intake of enrolments for our Starter (A1) class for beginners will open in March 2025 (date TBC), in line with our academic calendar. If you’d like to be notified when the enrolment period is opening, please join our Starter Course Mailing List.

We offer beginners and elementary level courses for learners who are just beginning their Japanese language learning journey, and those wanting to continue expanding upon the foundation they’ve built. We also have intermediate and advanced level courses for continuing learners and those wanting to further-immerse themselves within Japanese language and culture.

All our courses are taught over a four-term academic year, beginning in April each year, with every term comprising ten two-hour classes held either in-person at our Chippendale center or online via Zoom.

Please visit our How to Enrol page to find out more about enrolment, and feel free to contact us here if you have any questions.

*Please note – Our language courses are available to paid members of The Japan Foundation, Sydney. If you are not already, you will need to become a member with us as part of the enrolment process. For more information about membership fees and benefits, please visit our membership page.
