J-Course FAQ
Is there an age requirement to enrol as a J-Course student?
Yes, you must be at least 18 years old in order to apply.
When are the classes held?
Classes are held in both the morning and evening.
- Morning classes run on Saturdays from 10am – 12pm.
- Evening classes run on Mondays to Thursdays from 6pm – 8pm.

How much does it cost to study as a J-Course student?
Marugoto Course Fee (Starter – Intermediate 2)
- $370/ term (new students)
- $350/ term (continuing students)
*Please note – course fee do not include the textbook fees
B2 Course Fee
- $170/ term (new students)
- $150/ term (continuing students)
*Please note – B2 Courses use original course materials that will be provided to students before the first class of term
Textbook Fee
Textbook fees vary depending on the course and will be charged at the same time as the enrolment fee. For more information regarding textbooks and fees for each course, please visit the individual course level pages here.
If necessary, am I am able to withdraw from my course enrolment?
Yes, students may opt to cancel their enrolment up to one week before the commencement of the first class of term for your enrolled course. Students are required to notify the J-Course team via email before the abovementioned time period in order to cancel their enrolment.
Can I get a refund?
If the abovementioned cancellation criteria are satisfied, course fees will be refunded, minus a cancellation fee of $50. If you are unable to meet the cancellation deadline due to circumstances beyond your control, you may be eligible to receive a refund equal to 50% of any remaining course fees. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and students are required to notify the J-Course team via email. If the refund request is approved, the refundable amount will be calculated from the receipt date of the cancellation request by the J-Course team.
Can I request to change my course/class after it has started?
Yes, if your teacher approves the change and there is a spot available in your new class of choice. Requests to change courses or classes are to be made directly to the J-Course team via email.
* Please note – a $50 administration fee will be charged for changes made after the second week of each term
What happens if I am unable to attend a class?
For courses that run 2 or more classes within the same week, there are substitute classes available for students.
To request a substitute class:
- Complete a Substitute Class and Absence Request form through our Student Portal here
- Ensure that you submit the request 2 hours before your regular class or your nominated alternative class, whichever comes first
- Your request is confirmed and processed only when you receive a confirmation response from the J-Course team
If you are unable to attend class on any day of a particular week, you can let us know via the same form mentioned above. We will notify your teacher of your absence once we receive your absence request.
*Please note:
- You cannot join a substitute class without an email confirmation from the J-Course team
- As places are limited, we cannot always guarantee you a place in a substitute class
- Each student is permitted to request up to 4 substitute classes each term per our terms and conditions
Do I receive a certificate once I complete the course?
Yes, if you have attended at least 80% of classes in a term, a certificate of attendance is available upon request, made directly to the J-Course team via email.

Are there any technical requirements for classes being run online?
- a computer or laptop (operating systems: Windows 10 or 8.1 / Mac OS X 10.10 or later),
- the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Safari,
- headphones with a microphone,
- a web camera, and
- a stable internet connection, with at least a 1.2Mbps download speed and 600kbps upload speed. You can test your internet speed here.
