Tokyo Style Girl Boss Alisa Ueno

Alisa Ueno in conversation with Sarah Lim

August 30, 2017

As observers and consumers of Japanese fashion, we keep connected with the ever-changing trends through magazines, blogs, social media, and perhaps, the occasional visit to Japan. But what is it like being in the middle of it all?

From model to fashion designer, Alisa Ueno has been a mainstay in the Japanese fashion scene since a young age. Born and raised in Tokyo, Alisa started as a dokusha model or amateur fashion magazine model, before transitioning into professional modelling. With her unique sense of style, it wasn’t long before she was invited to work behind the scenes as a creative director for fashion label Fig & Viper. Most people attribute the ‘Neo-Gal’ trend look to Alisa, although her unique sense of style goes beyond this, marking a transition in the various trends in Japanese fashion and beauty throughout the years.

At this talk event, Alisa Ueno joins us to discuss her fashion career and take us in depth into the changing Tokyo fashion culture, as experienced from her unique perspective. She will be joined in conversation by local emerging creative talent Sarah Lim.

This talk is part of the Tokyo FRUiTS event series, featuring talks, a film and an exhibition.
