The Way of the Sword: An Introduction to Kendo
Workshop in partnership with UTS Kendo Club
July 22, 2016
Part of the Tenugui: The stylish everyday cloth Living Culture event series.
Kendo, literally meaning ‘way of the sword’, has its roots in kenjutsu training wherein Japanese swordsmen practiced their sword skills with a bamboo sword. This formal training has since evolved into a martial art of its own.
Join us in a workshop with seasoned kendo practitioners from the UTS Kendo Club and learn the basic principles of kendo, discover how they use tenugui (versatile piece of cloth used in Japan), and have fun practicing with a shinai (bamboo sword).
The workshop will start with an introduction and Q&A at The Japan Foundation, Sydney. Participants will then walk to the UTS Ross Milbourne Sports Hall across from Central Park to complete the session.
