How to Enrol

If you haven’t studied Japanese before, this is the section for you.
If you have studied Japanese previously, please see the information for New Students (non-beginners).
Continuing Students‘ is for current J-Course students.

Starter Course (First Term, 2025) Mailing List

The First Term of the Starter Course is suitable for absolute beginners.
*The First Term starts in April – details for the 2025 Course are still TBC.

If you would like to receive an email from us when any updating information becomes available, please register to the mailing list below.

For students wanting to begin their Japanese language studies sooner, we have a list of Japanese language schools in Sydney and outside of New South Wales for your reference.

Please note that you must be over 18 to enrol in our Japanese language courses.

This information is for new students who have studied Japanese previously.

Submit an enquiry

  1. Complete our enquiry form (below), and include details about your Japanese language background.
  2. If you are unsure of your Japanese level, you can use our self-level checker (included in the enquiry form) to determine which of our courses may be suitable for you.
  3. J-Course will get in touch with you within as soon as we can after receiving your enquiry.

Please Note:

★ There may not be space available in a suitable class right away. In this case, you will be placed on a waiting list, and will be contacted when a place becomes available.

★ Depending on class availability, non-beginners can enrol in J-Course after term has commenced. You do not need to wait until the end of term or for the beginner application period to contact us.

★ You can find information on our courses and their levels on the course overview page.

Placement Test

When a seat becomes available, you will be asked to complete a placement test to confirm the most suitable class level for you. This test consists of a written test that will be emailed to you, and a mini-interview online via Zoom.
Please note that this test is separate to the self-level checker.

Enrolment

  1. After receiving confirmation of your level through the placement test, you will receive an email asking you to enrol and make payment via Eventbrite or in person at our office.
  2. Once you have completed payment, you will receive a confirmation email from J-Course with your class details.
  3. You are enrolled!

Please Note
The self-level checker tests up to Intermediate 2 level. For those interested in the B2 Level 1 and B2 Level 2 classes, please submit your enquiry form and J-Course will contact you for consultation directly.

Enrolment for Continuing J-Course Students

Application and Payment

Near the end of term, you will receive an email from the J-Course team containing payment and enrolment details for the next term. We have a two week Priority Enrolment period for continuing students, during which your seat will be held for you. If you have not yet re-enrolled by the end of the priority enrolment period, your place may be offered to a wait-listed applicant .

Note:
If you would like to return after an absence of one or more terms, you will need to enrol as a new student. Please contact the J-Course team directly for re-enrolment instructions in this case.
