The Asia-Pacific Journal: Japan Focus is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal which has been publishing scholarly analysis on Japan and its surrounding region since 2002.

Electronic Journal of Contemporary Japanese Studies (EJCJS)

EJCJS is an open-access, interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal which began in 2001, and publishes social sciences and humanities research on contemporary Japan.

Melbourne Asia Review

Melbourne Asia Review is an open-access, peer-reviewed online journal which was established in 2020, and is published by The University of Melbourne’s Asia Institute.

New Voices in Japanese Studies (NVJS)

NVJS is a peer-reviewed, open-access online journal established in 2006 and published by The Japan Foundation, Sydney. NVJS specialises in publishing humanities and social sciences research by emerging scholars with ties to Australia and New Zealand.

Trans Asian Photography Review (TAP)

TAP is a peer-reviewed, open-access online journal established in 2010 as a platform for English-language writing on contemporary and historical Asian photography by scholars from diverse backgrounds and fields. It is published by Hampshire College in association with Michigan Publishing.

Open-Access Books about Japan [List]

This list is a Google document that was initially compiled by Dr Allison Alexy and Jordan Cleland of the University of Michigan, with further additions crowdsourced from the anglophone academic community via Twitter. The list includes a number of titles by Australian scholars.

Michigan Asian Studies Open Access Books Collection

In mid-2020, The University of Michigan Press launched its Michigan Asian Studies Open Access Books Collection, which makes almost 100 books published under the UMP imprint freely available online.
