Japanese Studies Association of Australia (JSAA)

The Japanese Studies Association of Australia is the peak body for Australia-based scholars who teach, research or study about Japan. Membership is open to students, active academics and retired scholars from Australia and overseas. The JSAA publishes the refereed journal Japanese Studies (Taylor & Francis) and runs a biennial conference.

Asian Studies Association of Australia (ASAA)

The Asian Studies Association of Australia is the peak body for Australia-based scholars and university educators whose area of specialisation is related to Asia. Membership is open to academics and students as well as experts from government and industry. The ASAA publishes the online bulletin Asian Currents and the refereed journal Asian Studies Review (Taylor & Francis). It also oversees the publication of four book series on Asia and runs a biennial conference.

The Australian Network for Japanese Law (ANJeL)

The Australian Network for Japanese Law is an inter-university initiative to promote scholarship on Japanese law. Membership is open to academics and students, as well as practitioners and policy makers. ANJeL regularly hosts seminars, symposia and other research-related events.

Nikkei Australia

Nikkei Australia is a membership organisation promoting research, community, arts and cultural activities related to the Japanese diaspora in Australia. Among its projects, Nikkei Australia spearheaded and ran a comprehensive survey of the Cowra cemetery (where many Nikkei civilian internees and prisoners of from World War II were buried), resulting in the bilingual Cowra Japanese War Cemetery Database and a storytelling app centred on these histories, titled Cowra Voices.

Asian Australian Studies Research Network (AASRN)

The Asian Australian Studies Research Network is comprised of experts from academia, community and cultural sectors with research interests related to people of Asian descent living in Australia, both past and present. The AASRN runs biennial conferences, symposia and other events to promote knowledge-sharing and exchange with a focus on Asian diasporic studies, transnationalism and diversity.
