DR JESSE HOGAN
Jesse Hogan Ph.D. completed a Doctoral Degree in Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts (2020), a Masters of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts (2017), A Masters of Art Education at the University of Western Sydney (2009), and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at Sydney College of the Arts (2005). Hogan works across multiple mediums with a particular interest in art spaces as critical sites of spatial, cultural, aesthetic, and socio-political development. Understanding the exhibition conditions as non-neutral, Hogan plays with a host of artistic practices that engage with installation as a complex topography of art language and interconnected practice. He is currently working on paintings as well as several curatorial and publication projects with Japanese and Australian contemporary artists.

Join 4A, The Japan Foundation, Sydney and UNSW Art & Design on September 9, 2021 from 7-8:30pm for a Zoom panel on post-contemporary art practices in Japan, featuring Jesse Hogan, Yuko Hasegawa, and Yuki Okumura.
Moderated by Prof. Paul Gladston, the discussion will unpack the cross-cultural discourses between academics, artists and writers in Japan and Australia. The talk expands upon Jesse Hogan’s 2019 research treatise Survival Aesthetics (Tokyo University of Arts) and the forthcoming Interview Series Publication, which focuses on the bonds formed by these socio-cultural art practices and their relevance to Japanese, Australian and international art audiences.
