Special Advocacy Session for Japanese Language Educators
Why Japanese? – Advocacy to promote learning Japanese
We as Japanese language teachers frequently hear “Why Japanese?” from school principals or parents.
In this session, Adam Sims, a representative from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), will provide insight into trade and economic links between Japan and Australia. His talk will also focus on the concept of “Society 5.0,” Japanese tourism, and business culture. Participants will learn many interesting aspects of Japan from a business perspective. This session will also be beneficial in advocating Japanese language study for all Japanese language teachers to promote learning Japanese language in their school.
At the end of the session, we will have a discussion on how to apply the information to your own situations. It will be a great opportunity for you to expand your professional network, as well!

Adam is a Project Coordinator for Business Development at the JETRO Sydney office. He has supported numerous Australian companies with their investment plans in Japan, including guidance through the process of Japanese business incorporation, market research, and setup. He also supports Japanese companies in their research and business activities in the Australian market, including incoming visits, trade missions, and export promotion events. Recently, he has been involved in creating new opportunities for startups to do business and engage with emerging innovative industries in Japan.
