This online seminar will be conducted in Japanese.
In the 22nd seminar in our series, we welcome Professor Yukiko Okuno from Tokyo Metropolitan University to explore how CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) can be used in teaching Japanese as community language.
CLIL is an approach that focuses not simply on “learning the language itself,” but on “using the language to learn something.” Rather than only “learning Japanese,” learners also have opportunities to “learn through Japanese,” developing both language skills and knowledge of a particular topic along the way.
In this seminar, we will explore how the principles of CLIL can be applied to Japanese as community language and consider practical ways to incorporate them into classroom activities.
第22回のセミナーシリーズでは、東京都立大学より奥野由紀子教授を迎え、繋生語としての日本語を教える現場で、CLIL(クリル:Content and Language Integrated Learning)をどう実践していくかを考えます。
What is KEISHOGO (繋生語)?
Keishogo refers to the language of children living outside Japan who have connections to Japan. It includes language passed on from parents, but is not limited to what is inherited. It grows out of connections with parents, family, friends, and the wider community, creating new connections and new meanings, which can then be carried forward to the next generation.
In this seminar series, we use the term “Japanese as community language” without the article a, reflecting our view of language as fluid, evolving, and shaped through connections with others.
【Message from the presenter】
Let’s explore together how we can use CLIL to create more moments when learners feel inspired to speak, share, and connect with others.
I look forward to meeting you all online!
