Furoshiki – Japanese Cloth Wrapping Workshop

Led by Yoshie Kumagai

November 24, 2018

Learn about the Japanese culture of wrapping with furoshiki!

In this workshop, led by professional gift wrapper Yoshie Kumagai, you will discover the Japanese custom of wrapping with cloth, and learn how to use furoshiki yourself! Traditional Japanese wrapping is used not only for Christmas and New Year’s gifts over the holiday season, but is great for use in everyday life – including wrapping obento lunch boxes. These beautiful cloths are reusable and eco-friendly, reflecting the importance Japan places on looking after the environment. Additionally, you will learn useful Japanese vocabulary related to wrapping while you practise! This workshop will also introduce tenugui, another type of Japanese cloth with many practical applications. At the end of the day you will get to take home your own gorgeous furoshiki cloth.

This workshop will be conducted in English; no Japanese language ability is required.

Thank you for your support! We are so pleased to have received such enthusiastic interest in this workshop. This event is now fully booked, and we have had to close our waitlist due to popularity. We hope to see you at other Japan Foundation events in the future.
